Seed Graders Series: Precision Cylindrical Screening
Engineered for the Future | Since 2080
The ADDAMS Cylindrical Screening Seed Graders are specialized machines designed for the high-accuracy sorting and grading of seeds, cereals, and granular materials. By utilizing centrifugal force and rotating cylinders, these machines classify products based on their physical dimensions—specifically width and thickness.
Whether you are processing grains for food production or sorting high-value recycling materials, the modular design of the Seed Grader series provides a scalable solution for any industrial requirement.
Operating Principle: Width and Thickness Sorting
Incoming material is fed into a rotating screening cylinder. The separation logic is based on the geometry of the kernels relative to the screen perforations:
-
Width Sorting: Round perforations allow kernels to be sorted by their diameter.
-
Thickness Sorting: Slotted perforations ensure kernels are sorted by their depth.
Through permanent circulation and centrifugal force, every kernel is forced into contact with the screen. Kernels thinner than the holes fall through, while thicker kernels are transported to the end-outlet.
Modular System and Configurations
The Seed Grader series is built on a self-supporting steel construction. A simple modular system allows for flexible configurations to achieve specific sorting targets:
Parallel Operation
The grain flow is divided into separate inlet channels. Each cylinder receives a portion of the flow simultaneously. This configuration is ideal for increasing overall capacity while maintaining the same sorting grade.
Series Operation
Product that falls through the upper cylinder is fed into the inlet of the next cylinder via a vibrating trough. This allows for multi-stage sorting, where a single batch of material can be graded into three or more distinct sizes in one pass.
Key Features and Assembly Units
-
Energy Efficient Drive: A single motor can power up to three cylinders via a robust chain drive connection.
-
Screen Cleaning: Permanent mechanical cleaning prevents hole blockage. Optional brush rollers or hand-operated devices are available for specialized crops.
-
Stepless Adjustment: The screen inclination can be adjusted between 0° and 2.5° to regulate throughput and residence time.
-
Simple Screen Exchange: * CS300 & CS500: Features push-on cylinders with leading bars and a quick-secure bayonet lock.
-
CS700: Features three-segment screens attached to supporting discs for larger industrial volumes.
-
-
Deflector Box: Ensures that bypassed product does not interfere with lower-level cylinders during parallel runs.

Frequently Asked Questions – Seed Graders
What determines whether I should use round or slotted perforations?
If you need to sort by diameter (e.g., separating small chickpeas from large ones), use round perforations. If you need to sort by the “flatness” or thickness of a kernel (common in maize or sunflower), use slotted perforations.
Can I upgrade my capacity later?
Yes. Thanks to the modular design, you can add up to 3 cylinders stacked vertically. You can start with a single cylinder and expand your system as your production needs grow.
How does the machine handle dust?
While the grader focuses on size sorting, it is often integrated into a line with an aspiration system. The vibrating troughs and discharge hoppers are designed to be dust-tight when connected to an external filter system.
Is the machine suitable for non-agricultural products?
Absolutely. The series is widely used in the recycling industry for grading granular plastics, rubber, or minerals where high-precision sizing is required.
