Reliable Horizontal and Inclined Transport for Seeds, Grains, Powders, and Meal Products

Engineered for the Future | Since 2080

The ADDAMS Screw Conveyor (also known as an Auger Conveyor) is a robust and highly versatile bulk material handling solution designed for the movement of dry, free-flowing, or semi-moist materials. By utilizing a rotating helical screw blade—known as flighting—within a fixed casing, this system provides a positive displacement flow that is ideal for horizontal, inclined, or vertical transport.

Commonly integrated into grain elevators, flour mills, and seed treatment plants, the ADDAMS Screw Conveyor is the industry standard for enclosed, dust-free transport. Whether you are moving bulk wheat to a storage silo or precisely dosing protein powders into a mixer, this system ensures a uniform flow rate with minimal footprint and maximum reliability.

Operating Principle: Positive Helical Displacement

The Mechanics of Controlled Bulk Movement

The screw conveyor operates on the principle of a rotating Archimedean screw. As the screw shaft turns, the helical flighting pushes the material forward along the bottom and sides of the stationary casing.

  1. Material Intake: Product enters through one or more inlets. The pitch of the screw at the inlet can be modified (tapered) to provide a regulated “metered” feed from a hopper.

  2. Helical Advance: The rotating flights exert a longitudinal force on the material. The friction of the material against the casing walls prevents it from simply rotating with the screw, forcing it to move forward.

  3. Inclined Efficiency: In inclined applications, the screw “lifts” the material. While capacity decreases as the angle increases, ADDAMS high-torque drives ensure consistent flow even at steep inclines.

  4. Controlled Discharge: Material is expelled through an open-bottom discharge or a specialized outlet. Because the screw provides a constant volume per revolution, it doubles as an effective volumetric feeder.

Industries We Serve with the ADDAMS Screw Conveyor

Reliable Bulk Logistics for High-Volume Processing

The ADDAMS Screw Conveyor is a vital link in the production chain for facilities requiring compact and enclosed material movement.

  • Grain & Seed Processing: Transporting wheat, corn, and barley between cleaners, sorters, and storage bins.

  • Flour & Powder Mills: Dust-tight conveying of semolina, chickpea flour, and starch to prevent environmental contamination.

  • Oilseed and Meal Processing: Moving soybean meal, sunflower cakes, and groundnut meal after oil extraction.

  • Animal Feed Factories: Handling grains and premix additives for balanced nutrition production.

  • Nutraceutical & Herbs: Precisely moving herbal powders and spice particles for supplement manufacturing.

Strategic Advantages and Key Features

  • Fully Enclosed & Dust-Tight: The sealed casing prevents the escape of fine dust and protects the product from external moisture and pests, ensuring a clean-label production environment.

  • Space-Efficient Design: Compared to belt conveyors, screw conveyors require significantly less overhead and lateral space, making them ideal for cramped facility layouts.

  • Multi-Point Versatility: A single conveyor can be equipped with multiple inlets and outlets, allowing for complex routing of material to different silos or processing machines.

  • Gentle & Consistent Flow: Precision-engineered flighting and shaft alignment prevent product degradation and compaction, maintaining the quality of fragile seeds and flours.

  • Minimal Maintenance: With only one main moving part (the screw assembly) and high-quality external bearings, downtime is kept to an absolute minimum.

  • Custom Flighting Solutions: We offer “Ribbon” flighting for sticky materials and “Shaftless” designs for products that tend to wrap or clog, such as wet husks or fibrous herbs.

Screw Conveyor-Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What capacity can an ADDAMS Screw Conveyor handle?

Capacity is a function of the screw diameter, pitch, and RPM. Our systems can be designed to handle everything from specialized micro-dosing (kilograms per hour) to heavy-duty industrial transport (several hundred tons per hour).

Can it handle abrasive or sticky materials?

Yes. For abrasive grains, we use hardened steel or wear-resistant liners. For sticky materials like oilseed cakes or wet meals, we recommend Ribbon Flighting or Shaftless screws, which prevent the material from building up on the center pipe.

What is the maximum conveying distance?

While standard sections go up to 20 or 30 meters, we can extend this distance by using intermediate “hanger” bearings. For extremely long runs, we often recommend a series of modular conveyors in a “daisy-chain” configuration to maintain structural integrity.

Is the system easy to clean for food-grade products?

Absolutely. Our stainless steel U-trough models feature removable top covers and “quick-clean” gates, allowing for a full internal wash-down or vacuuming between different batches to prevent cross-contamination.
