Other Pulses and Legumes Processing Solutions

ADDAMS designs complete cleaning, grading and handling systems for pulses and legumes beyond the main commercial crops. Each line is configured around the raw material, contamination profile, required capacity and final market specification. Whether the product is intended for food processing, seed production, export or animal feed, the objective is the same: remove foreign material efficiently while protecting the natural shape, colour and germination quality of the crop.

For pulse cleaning and quality separation, compare Fine Seed Cleaners, Gravity Separator and Optical Color Sorter. For dehulling or split products, review the separate de-hulling guide and splitting guide. Confirm crop-specific suitability and acceptable breakage.

Pulses differ greatly in size, density, surface condition and sensitivity to impact. A machine arrangement that performs well on a large bean may not be suitable for a small lentil, vetch or lupin. For this reason, ADDAMS evaluates samples and process targets before selecting screens, air settings, conveying equipment and separation stages.

Pulses and Legumes We Can Process

Our modular systems can be engineered for many specialty and regional products, including:

  • Cowpeas, black-eyed peas and pigeon peas
  • Lupins, vetch, mung beans and adzuki beans
  • Broad beans, field beans and mixed bean varieties
  • Specialty lentils, peas and chickpeas
  • Feed legumes and locally grown pulse varieties

If your crop is not listed, our technical team can review a representative sample and define the appropriate process route.

Typical Pulse Cleaning Process

1. Reception and Pre-Cleaning

Raw pulses are received through a hopper and conveyed to a pre-cleaner. Coarse screens remove stalks, pods, strings and oversized material, while lower screens separate sand, broken particles and undersized impurities. An aspiration channel removes light dust, husk and empty seeds.

2. Fine Cleaning and Size Grading

A precision air-screen cleaner uses interchangeable screens to separate the crop by width and thickness. Multiple screen decks can produce uniform commercial fractions and reduce the load on downstream equipment. The selected screen perforations are based on sample analysis rather than a fixed crop assumption.

3. Density and Stone Separation

A Pressure De-Stoner removes stones, glass and heavy mineral contamination. Where damaged, immature or insect-affected pulses must be separated, an ADDAMS Vigor Series Gravity Separator classifies material according to specific weight. This stage improves purity and creates a more consistent final product.

4. Length, Shape and Colour Sorting

Depending on the crop and quality target, an indented cylinder can separate long or short contaminants. A spiral separator can classify round and irregular material by shape. Optical colour sorting can reject discoloured grains, foreign seeds and defects that cannot be identified by mechanical separation alone.

5. Product Handling and Packing

Clean product can be transferred to buffer bins, weighing systems, open-mouth bags or big bags. Belt conveyors, gentle bucket elevators and low-impact handling options are available for fragile crops and planting seed. Dust collection and centralized aspiration keep the working environment cleaner and support hygienic operation.

Equipment Commonly Used in Pulse Lines

Designed Around Your Product and Capacity

ADDAMS supplies individual machines as well as complete turnkey plants. Line capacity can range from compact seed-processing installations to industrial pulse-cleaning plants. The final configuration depends on bulk density, incoming moisture, percentage and type of impurities, required purity, available building height and the packaging format.

Before final engineering, we recommend a product test using a representative raw sample. Test results help determine the correct screen openings, airflow, deck inclination and machine sequence. This reduces unnecessary equipment and gives the customer a process designed around measurable separation results.
