Coffee Bean Cleaning, Grading and Sorting Equipment
ADDAMS engineers processing systems for green coffee beans after drying and hulling. Coffee is a specialty beverage crop, not a pulse, legume, cereal or malt product. The purpose of the line is to remove foreign material and defective beans, classify the product accurately and prepare consistent green coffee for storage, export or roasting.
Each project is designed around bean origin, moisture, screen size, contamination profile, target capacity and the quality grade required by the buyer or roaster.
Typical Green Coffee Processing Flow
Reception and Aspiration
Green coffee is received in bags, big bags or bulk and introduced through a regulated hopper. Controlled feeding maintains stable capacity. Aspiration removes dust, parchment fragments, light husk and other low-density material before mechanical separation.
Screen Cleaning and Size Grading
An air-screen cleaner removes sticks, oversized foreign material, sand and broken particles. Precision graders classify beans by screen size so exporters and roasters receive uniform commercial fractions. Screen decks can be configured for the customer’s grading standard.
Stone and Metal Removal
A Pressure De-Stoner removes stones, glass and dense contaminants that may be difficult to identify by size alone. Magnetic separators and metal detectors protect downstream equipment and support food-safety controls.
Density Separation
The ADDAMS Vigor Series Gravity Separator separates beans by specific weight. It can reject light, poorly developed, insect-damaged and low-density beans while producing a more consistent premium fraction. Intermediate product can be recirculated when higher recovery is required.
Optical Colour Sorting
A belt or free-fall optical sorter removes black, sour, faded, broken and other visibly defective beans, together with foreign material that remains after mechanical cleaning. Camera configuration and reject settings are adjusted to the customer’s grade specification.
Inspection, Weighing and Packing
Final hand-picking or inspection conveyors can be included for specialty lots. Clean coffee is transferred gently to buffer bins, open-mouth bagging scales or big-bag filling systems. Dust collection and centralized automation can control the complete line.
Equipment Commonly Used in Coffee Lines
- Bag or big-bag unloading stations and regulated feeders
- Aspiration chambers, cyclones and pulse-jet filters
- Air-screen cleaners and precision size graders
- Pressure De-Stoners and magnetic separators
- Vigor Series Gravity Separators
- Belt or free-fall optical colour sorters
- Inspection belts, gentle conveyors and packing systems
Specialty Coffee and Industrial Applications
ADDAMS solutions can serve dry mills, exporters, cooperatives, specialty roasters and industrial coffee plants. The line can be compact and manually supervised or fully automated with recipe control, product routing and production monitoring.
Sample testing confirms the correct screens, airflow and density settings before final engineering. It also helps determine whether the project needs only cleaning and grading or additional polishing, optical sorting and packing stages.
